The Olympics are only 3 months away – so while you’re waiting read the new topical crime novel 40 Days 40 Nights from local author Wendy Cartmell. It was originally planned that Aldershot Garrison would host a Team GB Training Camp for the 2012 Olympic Games. This is the story of what might have happened if they had.
The second novel in the Sgt Major Crane series 40 Days 40 Nights sees Crane battling with accidents, thefts, murders and terrorist plots. They all plague Sgt Major Crane who is not happy with his babysitting job of looking after the athletes in Team GB as they prepare for the Olympics and Paralympics. He likens it to 40 days and 40 nights in a personal wilderness before he can get back to his real job of investigating, but it turns into 40 days and 40 nights of chaos. Will Crane be able to keep the athletes safe, or will the terrorists win?
The Sgt Major Crane novels Steps to Heaven and 40 Days 40 Nights are now available for download at Amazon. Steps to Heaven will soon be available in paperback.

Might as well be honest! This 3 piece suite has been in the lounge in our holiday home for 9 years but now that we are living here, we need something squishier :) It has had very little use, as we have only been out for a month or so each year. It cost nearly 1500 euros new and we are asking 250 euros for the suite (without the red cushions). The suite would be ideal as 'occasional' furniture, on a covered terrace perhaps, or similar situation. For more information, contact irened 'at' fsmail dot net
evening, unfortunately, the monthly quiz will have to be cancelled.
Because of the uncertainty of the venue each month,i have reluctantly
decided not to hold the quiz again until September when the possibility of a
new venue has been secured.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the quiz in the past.

at El Molino in Lagos for lunch. The setting is superb with a terrace on the
beach (love the sound of the waves) and the food quality and price was very
good. A good Spanish restaurant with wide choice of fish and meat and they
also do a mean tagine, very yummy. They are on the main N340 near the Torrox
end of Lagos and are closed Monday. Best to book for Sunday as they are very
popular with Spanish families at weekends. Inside and outside eating.
A good value and friendly place for breakfast and coffee is Mama Rosa, near
the Correos in Torrox Costa. They also do great tapas and have an extensive
Spanish take-a-way menu. Only outdoor seating so if it's a cool day, wrap
5-year period. On previous occasions we used a gestoria & even attended
trafico personally to replace a lost licence (relatively easy visit there).
This time we used Clinica Rincón in Nerja. You can wander in for an almost
instant appointment (mornings only) – online information from other sites
suggested the usual plethora of forms, photos etc were required, so we went
prepared. Most of it wasn't needed with only the original licence & NIE
The medical wasn't as complicated as the other site suggested & consisted of
questions regarding prescription items & an eye test performed from the
chair! No reaction tests were conducted although I thought that was
compulsory. The doctor completes the forms for you on the computer (the
camera on this also provides the photo which will adorn your licence) – my
address could also be changed. The whole thing doesn't take very long (at
least on our visit) & the overall cost (medical test plus online
application) cost just under 70€.
If you don't receive the licence within three months you need to enquire at
trafico – amazingly ours arrived in just over a fortnight. The photo from
the computer camera is not very flattering & your signature on a pad is
reduced quite significantly, thus making it more illegible than normal. An
easy-peasy experience for us.
Most items are boxed, come with instructions and are in perfect working order
Homebase 550mm Mitre Saw with Timber Clamp 10 euros
Performance Adjustable Power Pressure Washer 1400 80-100 bar 20 euros

Torrox twinned with Kirkel, Germany
Torrox has been twinned with the German town of Kirkel, located in the south-west of the country, in a ceremony at the Torrox Town Hall. At the event, the mayors of both municipalities, Francisco Muñoz and Frank John, signed an agreement for on-going cultural and commercial exchanges. There are, according to council figures, currently around 3,000 German residents registered in Torrox.

While traditionally a festival more common in the provinces of Granada and Cordoba,May crosses can be found in towns and villages all over Andalucía. From May 3rd elaborate crosses made out of flowers will be erected in squares and outside churches, accompanied by a festive atmosphere created with music and dancing. Between May 3rd and 6th crosses will decorate the streets of Nerja, Almuñécar, Salobreña and Motril while Granada itself offers a tour of more than 40 decorated corners of the city. This year Marbella has organised its own May crosses event in the old town starting with entertainment on May 1st from midday in Calle Ancha. I have a Spanish reg Opel Vectra saloon. The front towing eye is removable
and I found it in the boot with the jack etc. This weekend I thought I would
try to fit it, just in case. There is a small plastic cover to move first, a
bit fiddly. When I tried to screw in the eye the thread wouldn't start. The
end was a bit rough so I spent some time filing the end to a nice rounded
shape. Still it wouldn't screw in. I checked the hole and female thread with
a torch as best I could and it seemed ok, it looked the right size, so back
to the filing. It was then I noticed that the thread is left handed !!
Once I was turning it the 'wrong way' it screwed in quite easily. I have
owned umpteen vehicles in my time and have never seen a removable towing eye
with a left hand thread before,

I've recently moved up to Cortijo Romero, Lago Vinuela and was given WIFIMAX as a internet provider. There was an installation charge and the first month’s rent up front and sign on the dotted. Simples.
This was the same routine we had to go through to get online in Torrox Costa. That worked fairly well, the signal faded somewhat but if it went off it came back on automatically.
All well and good here in Vinuela? Not so.

We've made a lot of friends over the years. One of these friends, Linda
Jarret, told us about a dog show that she used to organise in the UK which
she called SCRUFFS.
Knowing that many local people were dog lovers, she suggested that we tried
the same idea here. We put our heads together and organised the first
SCRUFFS dog show in 1997. Back then, the only suitable charity was C.A.S.
,so we invited them to join us for the first show.
Over the years, we've enjoyed many successful events. However, now, there
are more worthwhile charities that can benefit from the Pavo Real SCRUFFS
Dog Show, which, has been and always will be,held at The Pavo Real.
I hope this puts an end to any rumours.
We hope you will support us and the chosen charities and look forward to
seeing you and your dogs on May 12th at the 2012 Pavo Real SCRUFFS Dog Show.

Book now to receive 10% discount!
5 days - 4 nights Chefchaouen Itinerary
Day 1: We depart from Velez-Malaga 10.00hrs in our private vehicle, enjoying lunch in Tarifa before departing on the fast ferry crossing for Tangier. First travelling east, we then wind our way up the mountains, taking in the remarkable countryside along the way. We will stop en-route for afternoon tea, overlooking the beautiful lake Nakhla, arriving late afternoon at our accommodation. Here you can unwind in beautiful tranquil surroundings, before we experience our first night of Moroccan hospitality. Dining under the stars on the comfortably furnished Hotel roof terrace, absorbing the enchanting call to prayer from the Mosques, resonating in the night air.
Day 2: After breakfast we will take a guided Historical tour of Chefchaouen’s 15th century Kasbah and gardens, set in the “Place Outa el Hamman”.Then we will visit a selection of artisans at work. Wood, iron, leather and woven fabrics are just a few of the crafts traditional to the village. Lunch is at one of Chefchaouen’s best restaurants. After lunch, we will take a leisurely meander around the ancient medina, wandering through Chaouen's sapphire blue cobbled streets. Here you will have the chance to discover some of the medina’s hidden delights and meet some of Chaouen’s more colourful characters. After which you can relax and enjoy your evening meal in a stunning Arabian setting.
Day 3: Following breakfast we will take a ride into the mountains, passing through a national reserve, where you will be able to experience a very natural way of life first hand in an idyllic setting by the mountain river. Lunch will be prepared by a Berber family, with fresh produce of the season direct from their farm. You will have the chance to see ladies milling the grain by hand and baking the bread. This is natural life at its best! We will take a slow walk around this rural village and imagine we lived centuries ago. Returning to Chefchaouen for free time, and evening meal at another of Chaouen’s fine restaurants.
Day 4: After breakfast we will set off on foot to experience Chefchaouen’s nature spots following the river, passing the old water powered grain mills. Women can still be seen manually scrubbing the family’s clothes in the open sided washhouses, and on the rocks in the river itself. We will visit “Ras el Ma” the source of Chaouen’s water, and the ancient solitary mosque “Jemaa Bouzafar”. Then it’s off to visit our old friend “Habibi”, with his unique inner sanctum garden, where he teaches local children about the values of ecological gardening and farming. We will enjoy lunch in a relaxed setting, after which you may spend time as you wish. Gala dinner at Mohammed’s Roof top venue!
Day 5: Depart Chaouen after breakfast, stopping for a light lunch en-route. Then we will wind our way down to the coast and west to Tangier, departing on the fast ferry for Tarifa. Returning to Velez-Malaga, stopping en-route for refreshment break. Estimated time of arrival 21.00 - 23.00 hrs.

In my recent post concerning my pleasant ITV experience at El Palo, I explained that several people had had problems at Algorrobo ITV station, Keith's post seems to reinforce this.
My friend took his car to the Algorrobo station, the car was fitted with a towbar but he had no certificate of compliance, so they failed it, so he took it home, removed the towbar and took it back to Algorrobo.. Guess what? They failed it again because the towbar had not been removed by an authorised dealer! So he had to take it to an authorised dealer to refit the towbar and issue him with a certificate, finally it passed.

That was an excellent article by Lee on buying and selling a Spanish reg vehicle.
Last year I bought a Spanish reg car from a dealer in Torrox and he did the transfer in two days in Malaga. I had to go to The Hacienda in Velez Malaga myself the second day for some of the paperwork.
I recently had a towbar fitted to this car, an Opel Vectra, by the Opel dealer. I then went along to the ITV in Algarobo to have it checked and logged before using it. I was told there was a certificate of compliance missing from the paperwork given to me by the mechanic, so back to the Opel dealer. It took a week for this certificate to arrive, finally being delivered by special courier after the manager
had been quite vocal over the phone line to someone.

friendly. Are you the owner of this lovely cat? If he belongs to you
please contact either Sue 691706434 or Jacqui 691640397 for more

to the new bar Choto Playa at Penoncillo Beach near SOTO. Had a lovely
lunch sitting in the sun listening to the canary and enjoying the usual
delicious tapas prepared by Angeles and jamon serrano freshly cut. Great
location with lots more dining space, nice windbreak awning and sun trap,
loads of free parking, a short walk to Penoncillo beach and supermarket and
next door there's a bakery that has English newspapers so you can enjoy a
coffee in Paco's whilst catching up on the news.
