Critical Posts - An Opinion

Dear Jane,
I have been reading the various and varied comments on the Kohinor Indian restaurant in Torrox Costa.  Isn't it hard enough for people to make a living in these times of austerity without whingers leaping into print
to denigrate a restaurant?
Wouldn't it be better to raise objections with the management at the time?
This way the owners can put things right there and then  rather than be subjected to nasty comments in Digame  which are pretty anonymous anyway.
Got a complaint?
Tell the management, and if that is unsatisfactory then go further; not complain , whinge and grizzle on Digame.
They are not in the business of begging for a living, they are trying to provide a service.
Unkind comments can do immense harm so I do wish people would have a regard for the consequences of their actions.
Incidentally I have not been to this restaurant, I am only objecting to negative restaurant critiques.
As my old grandmother used to say "if you can't say anything nice, say nothing",

For Sale - Vintage Evening Bag

Gorgeous Vintage ladies beaded evening bag.
Ivory coloured bead background with floral pattern in grey and mother of pearl type beads.
Dates to no later than the 1920s or early 1930s but could be earlier (turn of the century) as the pattern is very Organic/Art Nouveau in design.
The bag has a wrist strap on the rear (base of bag to the top - see the second photo) so that the bag could be worn whilst dancing - however, due
to the bags age, the stitching is insecure on this so it should just be used as a clutch bag.

Apart from the loose stitching on the wrist strap, and a few missing beads around the front flap that is inevitable with age and cannot be seen except on
very close inspection, the bag is in excellent condition - it even contains the original mirror although this has clouded with age so is not usable.
The bag measures 7 inches at its widest and 5.5 inches at its narrowest (top); it is 5 inches deep.
This is a lovely vintage piece that is still very usable today - the bag looks stunning with a black dress.

Coastline Radio - Time Clock

Re: Coastline Time Clock.
Andy as we answered in our reply to your question via your email to the studio.
We do NOT broadcast time and date signature with our RDS component ( the message that comes up on your radiowhen you tune in : Live and Local Coastline FM )
What you will be picking up is another time signature bleeding into ours.
Because of the unreliability of power in southern Spain, we cannot lock our RDS generator to a good time source.
Hope this answers your question.

Koh-i-Noor - FINAL post

We visited the Indian restaurant for the 2nd time last night, the first time was at lunch time,
They had put a heater inside , people moved as they said it was to warm. The food both visits was consistent,, as for the food not being spicy enough, you do have a choice
The people on the next table had exactly the same as us and said it was to spicy.
You cannot please everyone.
We agree inside is very sparse, but they have only just opened.
We will certainly go again.

Whistling Kettle Needed Please

TV Matters

I'm probably one of the few people here who pays an annual T.V. license and therefore I do not feel guilty about watching it when I'm in Spain for the winter.
There is another option that nobody has mentioned so far and that is to watch British T.V. through a cable.
It costs 200 euros to instal the cable and 135 euros a year.
Most of the urbanisations in east Nerja are now on this cable which is operated by Teledistribuciones Servitecnic. S.L. from Torrox-Costa.
There is another cable company in Almunecar but it's more expensive.
I bet all you Digamites are fed up with this TV saga, how ever, I have an Android 620T Box.
I am getting all the TV programmes that I want to watch, all have been mentioned before on Digame.
But I do have a problem and wondered if anyone out there has a solution, having logged onto the programme that I wish to watch, I click on expand picture to full screen size but end up with a size that would possible be about  three quarters of the full TV screen size,  I have a margin around the outside of about three inches on a 42" TV screen.
How can I get the full screen like what I can get from my Laptop Computer.
Answers may be of use to others so you can put this out to all Digame folks or alternatively email me.

Water heaters...

I know someone who supplies Endesa with instant water heaters and also fits them in hospitals hairdressers etc....
It works on a similar principle to our electric showers, very economical to run and no need for a big water tank..
Only heating the water when you needit without the hassle of gas.
Also the composition of the pipes prevent any cal building up
If anyone would like more info you can email me on
elmorche at tiscali dot co dot uk.

I recycle everything but I do notice that other people don't especially when they're on holiday.
I see them getting into their hire cars after throwing glass bottles into the garbage bins!
In the UK there are recycling centres for furniture, electrical equipment, cookers, fridges, baths, kitchens, you name it.
The one near me in Scotland is called Waste-busters and I even found a glazed front door and double-glazed patio doors which are now installed in my mobile home.

Advice Please - Property Websites

I am hoping to sell my townhouse in Torrox village.
I know there have in the past been references to websites for selling property in Digame, but have not been able to find them in the archive.
Is anybody who has successfully sold a property via a website willing to share their experience?
Does anybody have any recommendations for particularly good/ effective websites, or warnings about those to avoid?
Any information to badgerdot101atlivedotcom.
Thanks very much.

Solar for Hot Water - Response

In response to the person who left no name be it editors choice or chosen anonymity  reference  to "my opinion" which I shared from my personal experience in answer to the gentlemens inquiry.
It would have been beneficial to all Digame readers if the input had been made by he / she a little more informative.
Lets have the name of the solar panel that heats up in the dark.?
I wished I thought of that one!
Could there be some confusion that may be the electric element is energised when the tank  thermostat has clicked in cause someone has ran the hot water off?
You did say in your own statement that its rare the electric element comes on !
So If your solar panel is 100% then can he / she  answer why there is a provision of an electrical element?
How much would the average supply & installation cost be?
What calculations were made to show against an average energised electric water heater over a period of 5yrs ( Not your total electric bill but just the cost of a 1.2kw heater )against the users initial outlay and not forgetting additional maintenance costs .
There was no response about  guarantees either?
"Yes solar hot water is free " after you parted with a few thousand quid!
The choice is yours.
I have solar hot water, previously installed so it is free as I didn't pay to have it installed.

Pocapecunia, the charity shop - Closed Frisay

Pocapecunia, the charity shop in aid of the Love A Child Foundation, will be closed next Friday, the 28th of February, because of the Día de Andalucía.
We will be open normally on Saturday, 1st of March. Calle Bella Vista 6, open from 10am - 1.30pm.

Koh-i-Noor Restaurant

In response to Mark and his comment regarding the above restaurant -  there have been numerous responses to the food, some good some bad,but we took the chance and tried it.
It was abysmal.
Now!This may not be the restaurant that he knows but then maybe he knows very little about Indian cuisine.
Regarding not paying for food that you are unhappy with -  I tried that five or six years ago and nearly ended up in Malaga prison.
We too visited the Koh-i-Noor at Torrox and have to agree with other posters here.
It was  freezing.  They heat the patio outside, but inside it is icy with the doors and windows left open.
We asked them to close them and pointed out that even though wearing our coats we were cold.
They closed one window?.
The starters arrived and were very promising, tender meat and full of flavour, but sadly the mains did not live up to the promise.
Chicken Jalfrezy  not spicy enough despite us asking for extra hot, and the chicken had been burned and had black bits on it which tasted Smokey.
The Lamb curry was also too mild and as it was placed on the table the overpowering smell was of Oxo’s.  We did not think the food was authentic which is a shame because the staff are very attentive and friendly, but once food gets a bad reputation it is hard to shake it off.
I think in the main the Indian restaurants out here try to cater to the Spanish, who do not like chillies.
I have yet to find a really good Indian restaurant and I have tried most between Nerja and Torre del Mar.

Recommendation - Water Heater service

Chris Wright is the best !!
I have recently used Chris Wright to service my gas water heater.
I have had it serviced in the past but nobody has ever been as thorough as Chris was.
The water is now piping hot and flows much more freely since Chris cleaned out the heaters pipework.
He charged a very reasonable amount, less than I have paid in the past.
I am 8 years in the Axarquia this is the first recommendation I have made, I will most certainly use Chris again.
He is based in the Vinuela area and can be contacted on 655240957

Bouquet - Painter and Decorator

Recommendation for Painter and Decorator - Cómpeta and area
We had our campo house, garage, pool casita and driveway wall repainted last October.

It looked pretty good then and, having just returned to Spain, we find that it is still just as good now; everything remains sparkling white, the cracks have not reappeared and all our rejas and metal doors are still a beautiful cobalt blue.
José Manual Fernandez of Cómpeta and his team did a fantastic job – he and his two ladies were committed, careful and likeable professional workers.
We can’t praise them enough.

Added to that the price was very reasonable!

Little Niña needs a home please

Eat, play and love

Hi, I am Niña (Spanish for little girl).
Since 1 week I am staying in a foster home without dogs/cats/children now.
I like it there and have enough time to explore everything.
Sometimes I think it might be a bit too calm for me when I am older.
I very much love to eat, play and giving love.
The bad thing is that my foster mum can’t give me a forever home.
Tail and my mum hope and pray that I don’t  have to take off on a round-the-world journey to find a lovely forever home.
They say I am a very sweet, active little lady found in Torrox Pueblo, let on a door step.
One brother was found on the next door.
Don’t know where he is now.
I am waiting for you and will give you all my love back.
I am about 5 weeks, 2,4 kg, very intelligent and will learn quickly.
Much  fun guaranteed.
There are lots of fotos and videos of me and they can send it to you.
Email:kamphans at
Email: tailtorrox at
If you want to visit me or want to see me in your home (driving in the car is no problem) you can call my foster mum 952513166(German) or Sue952539370 or

TV Matters

From everything I have read the Costa del Sol cannot pick up the new signal even with a 3m dish, (which would have been very expensive and would require a large area and strong concrete base for installation).

Koh I Nor Restaurant, Torrox costa - Opinions

Good morning to all Digame readers. Ruth and I visited the Koh i Restaurant Torrox Costa after reading of its recommendation in Digame.
On the plus side the food was excellent in quality, presentation, quantity and price, The staff were very polite and the chief took interest in our satisfaction.
On the minus side we found the room to very cold and the doors remained open.
We, like several customers, needed to replace our coats for comfort.
Our meals were hot but we were not.
We were not very impressed by the attire of the staff. Jeans and a tee shirt do not do credit to the ambiance of an Indian restaurant. A simple uniform worn by all the waiters would I am certain be more pleasing to the those who dine there. The chef in all his whites looked very good. In a score of one to ten I would rate the restaurant an eight. Bernie
Since when were anonymous comments allowed on here, the last one just sounds like it came from a rival restaurant, this is not where i eat , and if it was that bad why did you pay for it ?
I am only here for a few days by myself [although I have a place here] and decided to try the new Koh i Noor Indian restaurant in Torrox. I found the staff attentive and friendly, the place was cold with all the doors and windows open and staff walking about with coats on and zipped up.
The place also looks cold, a bit like a bus waiting room [no purples, dark blues and golds as is the norm].
The starter was tasty and hot [as in temperature not spice], the main [Chicken Jalfrazzi] was more of a tomato slurry which had to be trawled to find the chicken part of it, Aloo Gobi was soggy cauliflower and potato's in a different colur slurry [which in fairness didn't taste that bad], Pillaow Rice was lumpy and a bit stoggy, [Indian rice is usually very fluffy] Naan bread was lightly scorched on the bottom, enough to overrun any other taste in your mouth.
I also noted that the usual hotplate that is put on the table was missing and the dishes appeared to be dessert dishes, which with no heat below and no cover the food soon got cold.
When I got to bed I found I was extremely thirsty, so much so that I drank 3 litres of water during the night [something I never do], so I can only assume it was the dinner that had a very high salt content.
Very disappointing, very unlikely to return again.

Perfect Alarms

I've had dealings with perfect alarm, i have recommended them to many customers and they've all been happy.
Hi Digamites!!
Replying to the question about Perfect Alarm.  By all means I can highly recommend them.
I live in the campo with five dogs we can come and go as we please and even sleep with the windows open.   Just had two cameras installed so I can see what is going on by my computer or iPhone when I am not there.
Honest and gives wonderful service even on weekends I can call with any question.
Works according to a real schedule, and has very fair prices, never sales you something you do not need.  Finally, someone who cares about customers’ problems and satisfaction.
Hi Digame,
I can highly recommend Bernd at Perfect Alarms. He is very knowledgeable, professional and can make an alarm system to suit your requirements.
We are more than pleased.

Dog Groomer Recommendations

I can recommend Clara at the Almijara Vetenary Clinic in Nerja 952 52 15 07 is their number.
They always do a great job with my big fluffy Chow Chows.
Cheers Kristiina
I have used Posh Paws at Clinica San Fernando in Nerja.   I have been more than happy with the way they have groomed my dogs.   Vicky loves her customers very much!!!!  Alternatively watch out for grooming kits when they are on offer in Lidl.    Very useful and work well!!

Quality Dog Collars ?

Can any of our friends suggest best place (Nerja or Torrox area) to buy a quality leather dog collar for my lovely Springer ?
She has worn yet another one out.
Thanks, Paul

Whilst on the subject of Rubbish Bins and Recycling:

Are people simply thoughtless or cannot read.  "Solo Carton" means precisely that "Only cardboard/paper".  So why do I see that someone has thrown their standard kitchen domestic refuse and a piece of carpet in the blue "Cardboard/paper" recycling bin?
It's the same story with general rubbish being thrown in the yellow "Plastic/Cans Only" recycling bin.
Yet the bins for general refuse as only a few feet away.
Do these people not realise that by doing so can render the recycling bin unusable.
And.... guess what, in the general refuse bins you find plastic and glass bottles - some people are just too lazy or couldn't-care-less to put them in the recycling bins.
( We are now no longer on the subject of Rubbish ...... for a while at least.  Thanks to all participants. Jane)
